BVA Mission Statement
‘What you think and what you feel are more important than what you see. The world does not need another painting. What it needs is your vision.’
FRANK WEBB
‘…..I want my work to be an expression of my experiences in the world, not an illustration’
JOHN HOYLAND
‘Art does not reproduce the visible, but it makes it visible’
PAUL KLEE
The BVA was established in 1999 to provide an informal network offering support and information to artist living in and around Oswestry. There are now about 60 members from many visual art disciplines, including painting, photography, sculpture, woodcarving, glasswork, textiles, pottery and printmaking. We are contemporary artists, both figurative and abstract, who share a common philosophy with the purpose of expanding the boundaries of experience through our work. The BVA network is primarily concerned with visual explorations that encourage us along a personal journey – the group values the need for expression and experimentation, as well as expertise in working practices.

Another important aspect of the group is to expand the General Publics’ knowledge and understanding of Contemporary Art through informal discussions at events like Open Studios and group exhibitions.

Members receive a monthly information sheet, a twice yearly newsletter and have the opportunity to take part in Open Studios, group exhibitions, discussion evenings and show their work on this website.

The group meets informally at 11am on the last Wednesday of the month at the Oswestry Visitor Centre, next to St Oswalds parish church.
