Alison Holt is a textile artist, specialising in freehand machine embroidery and silk painting. Born in Oswestry, she completed a Foundation Course at Shrewsbury School of Art and went on to study Fine Art Textiles and Embroidery at Goldsmiths College, London. Alison was invited to exhibit in Texprint `79 as one of the years 30 most promising graduates in the country.
Returning to Shropshire Alison taught at Wrexham College of Art for three years before starting her own studio near Chester in 1982. She works to commission and exhibits her embroideries in UK galleries and internationally. She has been based in Oswestry since 2000
Alison is influenced by the countryside and the changing seasons. Exploring landscapes, woodlands, gardens and more recently seascapes and skies, capturing moments in time in paint and stitch. Alison has written five books on machine embroidery and has made a DVD of her embroidery and silk painting.
